Asian Waterbird Census 2019 In Wildlife Sanctuary Muara Angke
The Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) is a voluntary network-based activity that is part of the International Waterbird Census (IWC). The AWC is conducted annually during the second and third weeks of January. The AWC has been conducted in Indonesia since 1986, as a result of coordination between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and Wetlands International, with support from the National Geographic Society and the National Partnership for the Conservation of Migratory Birds and Their Habitats. Data and information obtained through these census activities help determine the status of global waterbird populations and are used as a reference in area management planning.
In 2019, the Biological Bird Club "Ardea" in collaboration with Indonesia Wildlife Photography (IWP) and the Jakarta Birdwatcher's Society observed and recorded the waterbirds in Wildlife Sanctuary Muara Angke (SM. Angke). Waterbird observation locations are still around the SM. Muara Angke area, namely at the point of Ecotourism, Nature Parks, Protected Forests, Pos 3 (big boats), Muara Angke Wildlife Sanctuary, and Arboretum.
In the AWC observations this time, we have observed handles of Ganggang Bayam Timur ( Himantopus leucocephalus ), Kuntul Kecil (Egretta garzetta) Cangak Abu (Ardea cinerea), Blekok Sawah (Ardea speciaosa), Kowak Malam Kelabu (Nycticorax nyctcorax L.), Kokokan Laut (Butorides striata), Bubut Jawa (Centropus nigrorufus) and Bangau Bluwok (Mycteria cinerea). It is hoped that the results of monitoring water birds can be useful and make the wetlands in this area home for the water birds that are there.
